Re-Incantations: Recology Artist Residency Sound Work

Re-Incantations is an original sound piece created during my 2026 artist residency at Recology King County.

During my residency, I spent numerous days and evenings recording audio within the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). These included the mysterious sounds of conveyor belts, suction assisted motors, the industrial baler, and the employees themselves. A specialized contact mic was used to record the sound of vibrations passing through machinery and even my own percussive drumming of a crushed aluminum can bale. I also recorded along the banks of the nearby Duwamish River, where osprey, crows, and songbirds added to the sonic mix. Additional sound recordings were made at the nearby Nucor Steel Mill.

These sounds have been sliced, edited, and layered to compose a work in three movements.
