Dan Webb with his work “Move Your Boulder”

On an early fall day in 2020, I visited the Seattle studio of my friend, the artist Dan Webb, as he neared completion of his public artwork “Move Your Boulder”. The work comprises three massive hands carved from granite boulders, each weighing 7 to 10 tons. Webb spent over a year carving the three hands, which burst forth from the stones, pushing and squeezing. The work is now permanently installed outside the new Sound Transit light rail station in Redmond, WA.
